The Crows Flew by the Cubs.
A top of the table clash . A bit of toing and froing while Vinnie encouraged Wagga United to wake up, a few great saves by Sam and Callum, saw the opening of the game. Bradie stretched his legs quite a few times in getting the ball to our end, by was thwarted by Tolland Cubs defence each time. Then the ball was down Tollands end and a great save by our goal keeper. Joseph in the middle, big kicks and good direction continually getting the ball back to our end. Our defence rallied as Tolland neared their goal again. Another good save by our goalie and then the half time whistle blew. And where did that first half go? The game entered the break with a Nil all score.
Dads joined Vinny, Keith and the team for that all important encouraging half time "talk".
Ater some quick runs up and down the field, the team did a great run and Sam took a shot, but hit the crossbar with cries of disappointment from the crowd. Then Sam regained control of the ball and the ball found the back of the net. The first goal scored for the game. Tolland turned the game up and Wagga United's defence saved some close attempts at goal from Tolland. The two Ethans were kept busy in defence and Tayla chasing down the ball was good to watch. Tayla keeping pressure on her counterpart and another save from our goalie, who saved perhaps the closet yet to a Tolland goal. Another good run towards goal for Bradie and the Wagga United team managed to keep the ball in our end for a while. Sensing Tollands desperation, and the ball was quickly back down their end. Tayla again thwarted a goal attempt from Tolland. Then yet another goal attempt with a good solid save from our goalie, back to our end for a good goal attempt by Dougal, then back again for another Tolland goal attempt and a save by our goalie – diving on the ball. By this time the normally quiet and reserved crowd of supporters were in an uproar, then the final whistle. Yes, Wagga United 1, Tolland NIL. Fantastic work from both Wagga United and Tolland goalies, otherwise the score would have been much higher.
Great work by all the team, and a great game from Chris our Goalie. While all our team played well, Chris would have to be a star today.
